Born and raised in East Harlem, New York City, Elliot brings a grounded, relational, and deeply human approach to his work as a mental health counselor. His path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by diverse life experiences, including military service, fatherhood, personal healing, and a deep curiosity about resilience, meaning, and human connection.
Elliot earned his Master’s degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University, where he developed a strong foundation in evidence-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care. He views therapy as both a space to address symptoms and an opportunity to explore the deeper stories, relationships, and patterns that shape a person’s life.
His work is informed by psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems, positive psychology, and cognitive behavioral approaches. Elliot takes a warm, collaborative, and holistic approach, considering the connection between mind, body, relationships, culture, spirituality, and overall well-being.
Elliot works with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity development, relationship challenges, life transitions, men’s issues, self-worth, and questions of meaning or direction. He also supports couples and individuals in non-traditional relationship structures, including consensual non-monogamy and ethically open relationships.
He recognizes that mental health does not exist in isolation from the world around us and acknowledges the impact of cultural expectations, systemic injustice, economic stress, discrimination, violence, and collective uncertainty on emotional well-being. As a counselor, Elliot does not view therapy as a place where people are “fixed,” but rather a space where clients can build self-awareness, reconnect with their strengths, and develop healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges.
His goal is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe enough to be honest, reflective, and open to growth.
