/contact-us
Lauren has over 10 years of experience administering emotional support and counseling services to individuals struggling with substance use and other co-occurring mental health disorders and developing curriculum for therapeutic techniques and approaches. Her approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral and person-centered theories and she has clinical experience working with diverse adults with complex problems in outpatient, inpatient and community mental health settings providing individual, family and group therapy. Her training background has been in assisting victims of crime and abuse, specializing in working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence and those legally mandated to counseling. From this experience she observed a void in care and understanding of marginalized persons', subsequently she developed specialized courses in Understanding Cultural Competency for Transgender People and Bereavement counseling. Her awareness has also been drawn toward addressing millennial burnout and inter-generational trauma.
Lauren's keen sense of compassion, especially for those often felt unheard or unseen has directed her passion throughout her growth as a clinician. Her passion was cultivated during her matriculation at Spelman College where she earned a BA in Psychology. Her skill was sharpened during her graduate studies at Columbia University where she was conferred dual masters in Psychological Counseling and Education, with a concentration in mental health.
Lauren is a Maryland native but has called New York City her home for the last decade. Her passion for mental health emerged at an early age and she knew going into college that she wanted to gain better insight into healthy mental health coping skills for communities of color. When she is not being a mental health community coordinator; training corporations, government agencies and community figures to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental crisis, she is seeing her private clients, hamming it up on her podcast Somewhat Dysfunctional or practicing some self-care.
